CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Mustrum Ridcully
Character Canon: Discworld
History: This is a wiki
AU History: Ridcully's mother was from one of the richest families in Sanctuary. Ridcully's father was a broke bare knuckle boxer/butcher. The whole marriage was a bit of a scandal among the upper crust, but he inherited his mother's aristocratic confidence and his father's energetic attitude. He showed an aptitude for magic, so he was sent off to a fancy academy that was still functioning despite the Gigan occupation of the city. He was a surprisingly good student and got a zillion degrees in magical study, and might have gone on to become the archchancellor of the school, but both his parents died when he was in his late 30s, tragically young, and he left school to run the family estates just outside of the city.
Now it is a good many decades later. The University of Union (the good ol' UU) sent a letter to several colleges in Sanctuary expressing a desire to start a department of magical studies for young and coming mages that were starting to show up in Union. After a bit of discussion, The Powers That Be sent Ridcully to Union on account of they think of Union as "A bunch of bleeding heart hippies who hug their pokemon to bed every night" and Ridcully as "Probably a quiet fellow who knows the name of every tree and talks to the animals."
In other words they were a bunch of snobs who felt too good to actually pay attention to Union and its little school. Ricully will start the game just as the UU starts offering classes in Magic, along with a few NPC professors who do most of the actual teaching. He's in more of an overseer role.
Canon Personality: Ridcully has a mind like a freight train: Powerfully unstoppable, but also supremely difficult to push off of it's rails. Once he gets an idea in his head he will cling to it until everyone around him has been driven mad. This frequently leads people to believe that he is not very bright which definitely is not the case. Typically, stupid wizards don't live very long, and describing their death usually involves words like "blast radius". No he is quite intelligent, but he takes stubbornness to a whole new level when it comes to changing his mind about things, and he tends to ignore anyone explaining problems to him for as long as he can. He figures if anyone wants to tell him something but gives up after only a minute or two, it can't have been very important in the first place.
Ridcully is also a huge outdoorsman. Traditionally, wizards live rather sedentary lives, staying indoors most of the time, reading a lot, eating lavish meals, sleeping in until noon, and generally not concerning themselves with the parts of the world outside their university that aren't catered. Ridcully, on the other hand, loves nothing more than getting his teeth in nature. He jogs every day (much to the annoyance of the other wizards), he hunts anything with fur or feathers enthusiastically with large crossbows, he enjoys fly fishing, and generally lives a very active lifestyle, which confuses his colleagues.
Ridcully views his colleagues as people who need help. He regularly attempts to get them to join him on his outdoorsy adventures. That they have no desire to do so has not blunted his enthusiasm in the slightest. He regularly strides through the halls of the university before dawn yelling at people to get out of bed and go jogging with him. He jumps out at people with a scary mask on to try and get their heart beating for once in their lives. That people ask him to stop every time does not slow him down in the least.
I mentioned above that most wizards tend to avoid using magic, but Ridcully has mastered the art of not using magic to an even greater extent than most other wizards. It is part of the reason he has survived as long as he has. Before him, the longest time any archchancellor had lasted before getting assassinated by a rival was eleven months. Wizards directed their energy towards competing with each other in the most brutal ways possible, but all their clever assassination schemes and subtle spells were about as effective on Ridcully as a garden hose would be on a freight train. He survived simply because his would be replacements expected him to employ magical defenses, so when their summoned demons got a crossbow bolt between the eyes, or their assassins got their skulls caved in by Ridcully's staff (Every wizard has a staff. Even one as non traditional as Ridcully. His is six feet long and made of seasoned oak, so it is excellent for beating things up that a spell would probably bounce off of.).
With Ridcully at the helm of the wizarding world, would be rivals have started to actually relax as they realize how much more pleasant stability, comfort and large meals are when compared to chaos, fear, and knives in the back.
AU Deviation: In this life, Ridcully is an important mage, but he is not the MOST important mage. This hasn't really changed his own attitudes very much, but it does change how other people react to him. He's got a lot less power and influence. Also he calls himself a mage rather than a wizard
Also he's a bit less gung ho about hunting, given the generally increased intelligence of the wildlife in this universe.
Canon Abilities: Ridcully is a wizard. That means if he can imagine it he can probably do it. The problem is that magic is very exhausting, so most wizards can only manage a few spells per day without an outside source of power. Also, overuse of magic tends to damage the fabric of reality, and also turn people into frogs and stuff at random, so when Wizards get overly frisky, everyone else gets overly angry. As such, most wizards get paid an enormous amount of money to not use much magic at all, and to teach magically talented youths how to not use much magic at all.
Enlightened Abilities: Grass/Fire Child of Knowledge Unbound.
At wills
Amplify: Increases the power and effectiveness of another spell significantly, at the cost of making it more unstable and more exhausting. Instabilities may manifest as something harmless (changes the colors of things around it, creates a flock of pidgeys that fly away, storm of ping pong balls, etc), dangerous (explodes violently, hits the wrong target, temporarily seals Ridcully's ability to cast further spells, etc), or just weird (changes Ridcully's typing at random for a little while, randomly transforms nearby objects into other random objects, etc).
Levitate: Essentially telekinesis. Ridcully can lift objects up to maybe 30 pounds with his mind, or up to like a ton, if he wants to risk amplifying it. LOCKED
Storage: Ridcully can turn any pocket into a magical bag of holding. Also works on his hat. LOCKED
Spells
Fireball: Throws a big firey ball that explodes. Come on we all know this one.
Starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur
Notes/Special Considerations: Nothing comes to mind!

Third-Person:
• What do you feel your role in your city is?
The job of a mage is to contemplate the deeper mysteries of the universe and dissect the tapestry of creation itself so that ordinary people don't have to and can just get on with their lives.
• To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
I wouldn't lift a finger! Most of my allies are far too lazy. A bit of adventure in the wilderness will do them a world of good! Get some of that good country air into their lungs bigods!
• What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
Ancient history. Who cares.
• The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
Look. Gods have their place in the universe, and so do magi. It's really best for both of us if we don't overlap too much. The gods can do their...thing over there, and we'll just be over here doing our own thing. No toes get stepped on and no one gets smote.
• You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies; upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
Well I don't like to rely on magic but, teleport is a handy spell...
• When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
Oh defeating it, definitely. Nothing like the struggle of man vs beast to discover just what kind of person you are underneath it all! No sir, nothing like it in this whole world!
• What area do you seek to explore? The peaceful forest, in search of new, previously overlooked discoveries; the uncharted caves, in search of the unknown; or the wildest of mountain terrain, in search of danger, adventure, and thrills?
Last one. Let's do that. I know I've got some climbing gear tucked away in here somewhere...[starts patting down pockets]
